Goldenwool insulation products have been a proven solution for
rectangular flue gas ducts for many years. They are flexible and can fit onto different geometries and surface structures.
Goldenwool insulation products are non-flammable with high maximum working temperatures and exhibit
low thermal conductivity across the total temperature range.
Secure the insulation to the rectangular ducts with welding pins and spring clips. Before the welding pins are fitted, a bonding procedure should be determined by the plant manufacturer
and insulator, which does not damage any corrosion coating present on the inside and outside of the flue gas duct. For example, it may be advisable to fit the welding pins before installing the corrosion coating.
Goldenwool insulation products should be secured to flat surfaces with at least 5 pins per board (or 6 pins per m2), and 8 pins per board (or 10 pins per m2) on the underneath.
Observe the following when pinning the insulation:
1. With insulation thicknesses < 5” [120 mm], use 8GA (6AWG) pins with diameter of 0.1 62" (4 mm).
2. With insulation thicknesses ranging from 5 1/2" to 10" (130 to 240 mm), use 6GA (4AWG) pins with diameter of 0.2043" (5 mm ).
3. With insulation thicknesses 2 10" (240 mm) use 4GA (3AWG) pins with a diameter of 1/4" (6 mm).
4. If the cladding rests directly on the insulation without a gap between the two, the pins must
be 3/8" (10 mm) shorter than the insulation thickness.
5. Fasten each insulation layer with clips.
With wired rock wool blanket, all the lengthwise and crosswise joints must be sewn or wired together, or joined with six mat hooks per meter. If the insulation is assembled in multiple layers, the joints of the individual insulation layers must be staggered.
To reduce convection in the insulation, for example, fitting barriers made from steel is
recommended, at intervals of 16 to 26 feet (5 to 8 m) when working on large vertical surfaces. The barrier must be effective across the entire section of insulation up to the cladding.
Goldenwool insulation is recommended insulation for round flue gas ducts, where temperatures are below 570。F (300。C). These are mounted directly onto the flue gas duct and are fastened with
straps. A fastening with welding pins and spring clips is generally not required in this instance.
